About us

Creating a fun environment for kids to grow

The Breakers were started in 2005 by an enthusiastic group of parents and community members.

Our inaugural President, David Ward lead the club from strength to strength out of a small facility located at the Coolum High School. Whilst we still play out of the Coolum High School, we now have almost 200 members and several premierships in the cabinet!

Rapidly growing female participation

We currently have three all girls teams in the Under 15, Under 13 and Under 11 age groups. We are striving to build on this next year and hope to field an Under 17 Girls team in 2025.

Our mission

To continue to grow a first class, community level AFL sporting club that viably and compliantly operates to provide a fun, safe, supportive and social environment and which contributes positively to the lives of our local community, our members and their families beyond the sporting field.

Our vision

To become the sporting club of choice for families and participants in the Coolum Peregian community because of the way we play the game, live our values, offer opportunity for all ages and skill levels, produce high quality footballers and provide more than just a sporting game.

Our values

We put fun first

We promote a Fun First mentality to training and playing; recognising that “fun” means different things to different people and will adjust with age.

A club for the whole community

We promote inclusiveness, celebrate our differences, help our team mates, and provide everyone with opportunity to improve.

We strive to always be our best

We strive to give 100% on and off the field and our effort is rewarded above performance.

We’re tough but fair

We play the game with strength, grit and audacity whilst displaying respect and sportsmanship to officials, opponents and our team mates to develop pride in the Breakers jumper.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, any child who meets the relevant age criteria can register to play with the Breakers. Depending on the timing of the registration some teams may have limited space for new players.

  • All junior/youth football games are played on a Sunday. On a small number of occasions games may be played on a Friday night under lights!

  • Junior teams (11.5 years and under) generally train on a Wednesday. Youth teams (13.5 and older) train on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

  • Roles can be from as little as 30mins a week. The more you put in, the more you and your kids get out of it. Coaching is one of the most rewarding roles in the club and we provide all the training and will guide you step by step.
